THE BOSNIAN PYRAMID VALLEY (PROMO)

Visoko, A History in the Making

“Here we have a definitive proof that the standard accepted version of our ancient past will have to be changed!”

How many archaeologists have spoken these words?

How many have shared the thrill with Semir Osmanagich when numerous television cameramen and noted guests from around the world pointed to the Visocica Hill, the pyramid-shaped hill which looms over the small town of Visoko, located some twenty-five kilometers from Sarajevo.

“That is the Bosnian Pyramid os the Sun, there is the Bosnian Pyramid of the Moon, there is the Pyramid of the Dragon, the Pyramid of Love...”

The news of the discovery of the Bosnian pyramids created a world sensation and provoked skepticism in the media. Pyramids in Europe have never before been mentioned in any of the literal works nor in any ancient legends. This fact alone was enough to divide some of the experts’ opinion.

However, in science one often must be creative and take some risk, hold onto a hypothesis and undertake one or another, or many study approaches, seek solid evidence, or else, develop rational arguments and/or alternative hypotheses. Without all this, there would be no discoveries or scientific research. In science one always must be prepared and open for discussion. It is sometimes forgotten that in science there is never a “final conclusion”.

The fact is that many generations of scholars in the past have often been brought up on erroneous concepts. In the 18th century, a highly respected French naturalist asserted that the Earth had cooled some 35,000 years ago and that life began on Earth 20,000 years later. Today, we know that our very distant relatives walked in the green African valley of Afar-Avesh more than three million years ago!

What happened to mankind’s ancient ancestors after and during the evolution is nearly impossible to reconstruct. It appears that entire generations moved in all directions as they were in constant search for food and a better life. Throughout the evolutionary stages, our ancestors were forced to change; they became more crafty, cunning, confident, faster, stronger, more resilient, and more determined. This process of constant change continued to the first settlements/ communities and the first pyramids.

The brilliant cultures gradually evolved from the primitive and small human communities of the Stone Age, which later died out and eventually the communities/ generations replaced them. There were violent catastrophic events, where the human population came to the edge of extinction. Legends tell of floods such as the biblical one, earthquakes and the vanishing of entire civilizations but mankind continued to revive itself and rebuild and work all over again to create something that we may never succeed in creating – a lasting civilization suitable for all conditions and all times.

Along that endlessly long path, perhaps our ancestors did indeed create brilliant lands as described in these ancient legends. Although we lack incontrovertible evidence and confirmation of their existence, certain discoveries simply do not fit into our limited positivist framework of scientific theory concerning our most ancient past.

Many still consider and associate archaeology with human skeletons, mummies, ancient tombs and the inscription on them. Others think that archaeologists live in the world of lost cities, strange idols, and golden treasures. However, the modern archeologist is not interested only in the spectacular, but also more in the prosaic aspects. In solving the most difficult of archaeological puzzles, one uses every technology available – from the analysis of shards pottery and grains of corn, to the modern sophisticated electronic equipment and technology designed for aerospace research.

Today geologists successfully reconstruct the landscapes which existed 50.000 years ago around ancient European campfires. Botanists test thousands of tiny fossilized pollen fragments in order to learn about the vegetation that once used to cover the Bering Straits in prehistoric times when a long bridge of land connected Asia and North America. Metallurgists prove that African blacksmiths worked with iron many millennia ago.

The so called “impossible” archaeological discoveries are precisely made due to such patient and multidisciplinary research. In the middle of the last century a Mexican researcher found the remains of two huts inside thick layers of ice, thousands of years old, at a height of 5700 meters in the High Cordillieri Mountains. This would not be quite so spectacular had he not found nearby a large number of seashells and other traces of the sea. At first this was not believed, just as the discovery of pyramids in Bosnia. But later, this discovery served to provide further evidence that the Cordillieri Mountains arose after some major pre-historic catastrophe and the Atlantic had a completely different shape prior to that.

After four years of preliminary research, the 'Archaeological Park: Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun Foundation' has managed with numerous friends and enthusiastic supporters, and primarily by excavation of the pyramid sites to support the hypothesis about their existence.
